University of Wisconsin Colleges Online is dedicated to bringing a high-quality UW System education to all types of students – including returning students, UW Colleges campus students, high school students and active service members – so that they can achieve their life and career goals.
Created in 1998, UW Colleges Online began by offering three popular courses online; 60 students enrolled. Three years later in April 2001, UW Colleges Online received accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Today we enroll about 2,000 students per term and offer more than 80 courses at any given time. Seventy percent of our students are part-time, 50 percent are first generation college students and 62 percent are older than 22.
Online classes are taught by the same UW faculty who teach in the UW Colleges campus classrooms. They utilize the same learning materials and have adapted and enhanced their courses to the interactive online environment with the assistance of professional instructional designers. UW Colleges Online offers students the opportunity to earn the UW Colleges Associate of Arts and Science degree entirely online. Students can also complete their requirements for other degree programs or take individual classes to satisfy continuing education requirements or personal enrichment.
UW Colleges Online prepares students for success, providing a liberal arts general education that is accessible and affordable. We also advance the Wisconsin Idea by bringing the resources of the University to the people of the state, as well as the communities that support our campuses.
