Proctor Information

Some Online courses require the use of a Proctor for exams. Students are responsible for finding their own proctor and submitting a proctor form by the end of the first week of classes.

Proctored Courses:

Arrangements for Exams

There are two options for arranging a proctor for the course exams. The option that applies to you depends on whether you intend to write your exams at one of the UW Colleges' campuses with an IT Support person as your proctor, or whether you intend to have someone other than an on-campus IT Support person proctor you exams.

Campus IT Support Personnel

  1. If you intend to write your exams at one of the UW Colleges' campuses, you should contact the Network Administrator or the Instructional Technology Specialist at that campus, and let that person know that you need a proctor.
  2. Once you have confirmed that the IT Support person will be able to administer the exams for you on the required dates, submit your proctor information. Do not complete the form until you have confirmation from the IT staff concerning the proctoring of your course exams. You will be able to access to the exam dates once you have access to the course site.

Non-Campus IT Support Personnel

  1. First, determine who qualifies as an exam proctor.
  2. When you have confirmation that the person will be available on the required dates, print out the proctor form [PDF] and fill in the required information completely, legibly, and ACCURATELY. You will be able to access to the exam dates once you have access to the course site.
  3. When the form is complete, use your copy to submit the proctor information.
  4. Keep the original form for your records in case questions arise.

Students With Disabilities Accommodations:

If you are a student with a disability and have an approved Individualized Accommodation Plan indicating that you need a reader for tests, you will need to find a proctor who is also willing to read your exams to you. In addition to submitting your proctor form, please send an email to the UW Colleges Online Proctor mailbox confirming that your proctor is also a reader. We will then provide your proctor with the necessary Reader Expectations for Examinations and Quizzes information. Only students with reader services recommended on UW Colleges approved Individualized Accommodation Plans are eligible for this accommodation service. We will provide your proctor with the Reader Expectations for Examinations and Quizzes.

It is ESSENTIAL that you submit all your proctor information NO LATER than the end of the first full week in the semester!

If you have any questions about proctored exams contact the Office of Distance Education. You can send an e-mail to the UW Colleges Online Proctor mailbox with your questions.
