What's a Hybrid Course?

As computers become an increasingly vital part of education, online learning has become a popular option. For some classes, such as science labs, in-person learning is still a necessity. UW Colleges Online offers hybrid courses that blend of face-to-face, hands-on learning with online instruction. Students are able to interact with their professors in person as well as complete online educational activities from the comfort of their home.

…at least not for the online portion of the course. You can take notes, watch lectures and do homework in your favorite fuzzy slippers. You can skip your usual morning routine and simply log on to your course. We do recommend showering regularly though!

With a hybrid course, there is no need to rush to class on your online days. You will have the flexibility to start class when you want to. Rain or shine, you can work on your learning tasks and not fall behind. Also, hitting the snooze button has much less repercussions when your destination is your home office.

Embrace the best of both worlds

Hybrid courses allow you to create relationships with your professors while giving you more flexibility. You get to decide when to do the online portion of your course. Communication can seamlessly happen inside and outside of the classroom. Though you will have the responsibility of completing the online portion on your own, your professor is happy to help in person or via email.

Having to manage your own schedule will help you gain the responsibility you will need post-graduation. No one is telling you when to log on to your course or to pay attention. You are taking your education into your own hands. This is the perfect opportunity to show yourself just how ambitious you can be.

With hybrid courses, you’ll participate in the classroom too! Class room learning experiences are conducted over two weekends on a UW Colleges campus (varies by course). Hybrid classes are popular for science courses and allow students in Professional Health Pathways to build a path to a career in the health field.
