Why Millennials Are Turning to Online Education

Because they want to save money.

Because they want to save money.

As student loan debt is at an all-time high for college students at an average of $37,172  per student, millennials are looking for new ways to cut costs. Online education is one of them. Students don’t need to spend money commuting to class or pay higher rent to be close to campus. All of those expenses tend to add up. Plus, online education gives students time to work outside of class.

Because they have the technological skills to do so.

Because they have the technological skills to do so.

Learning online comes easier to millennials than previous generations since they grew up using computers and digital technology. Laptops and smartphones have become an extra appendage to this generation, which has made using technology for education beneficial for them. Online education is becoming increasingly accessible for this tech savvy group.

Because it gives them flexibility.

Because it gives them flexibility.

Since student loan debt is ever increasing, many millennial college students want to work while taking classes. Online education offers the flexibility to stay on top of class work while fitting in time at work. They can also plan classes around an existing schedule. Class work can be completed virtually everywhere. Maintaining a school/work balance is all about time management, dedication and organization.

Because they know one size doesn’t fit all.

Because they know one size doesn’t fit all.

Millennials realize that everyone’s life path doesn’t have to look the same. Online education allows room for other facets of life. Whether that be work, family or travel, online education makes it easier to make time for things besides school. Though school is important, it doesn’t have to be a cookie-cutter experience.

Because they love coffee shops!

Because they love coffee shops!

Millennials can do their course work just about anywhere, even in their favorite coffee shops. As long as there’s Wi-Fi, they’re good to go! Of course, the library is always quiet, but millennials tend to like to explore shops and cafes. They can try a new latte while doing trigonometry or completing their English reading.
